Dr. Jann Cornels

Dr. Jann Cornels was admitted to the bar in 2017. Prior to joining FECHNER Rechtsanwälte, he worked in one of the leading international law firms in the field of intellectual property law.

Since the beginning of his legal education, Dr. Jann Cornels has been intensively involved with copyright law, industrial property rights and the adjoining fields of law. He studied at the University of Kiel, specializing in copyright and antitrust law, and completed his first legal examination in 2012. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for European and International Private and Procedural Law (Chair of Prof. Dr. Schack) and received his doctorate in 2015 with a thesis on design law for which he was awarded the prize of the Kieler Doctores Iuris for outstanding academic achievements. During his legal clerkship, he held positions at a special chamber for competition law at the Hamburg Regional Court and in a Senate of the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court responsible for copyright and industrial property protection. In addition, he worked as a trainee lawyer in the field of intellectual property law at a leading international law firm and a renowned IP boutique.

Dr. Jann Cornels advises on copyright, IT and data protection law, as well as national and international trademark and design law, competition law and international private and civil procedure law. He represents clients in and out of court in all matters relating to these areas of law. His particular interest is in the digital world, software and IT.

Dr. Jann Cornels has extensive teaching experience and is a member of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property e.V. (GRUR) and the German Association for Law and Informatics e.V. (DGRI).
