Dr. Birte Lorenzen was admitted to bar in 2002 and is a partner at FECHNER Rechtsanwälte since 2015. From 2008 till 2014 she headed the IP department at Corinius LLP after she had previously been working in IP law in another renowned Hamburg law firm and in strategic management consulting at McKinsey & Company, Inc.
Dr. Birte Lorenzen assists clients in all strategic and legal aspects regarding the handling of innovations, be it in their running business or in transactions. Her areas of practice include all intellectual property rights, particularly trademark, design, copyright, plant variety and competition law. A focus is the drawing up of contracts, particularly with regard to the creation and commercial exploitation of innovations (such as F&E-, concessions-, sale and distribution and agency contracts). Furthermore, Birte Lorenzen consults clients during the clearing process for innovations, accompanies the planning of advertisements and manages their large-scale IP-portfolios. In addition, she enforces those rights out-of-court through border seizures or litigation, but also defends firms against third party attacks. She has profound expertise in the following industry sectors: plant breeding, food and consumer goods, professional information services as well as communication technology. Moreover, Birte Lorenzen has special know-how regarding compliance issues with access and benefit-sharing regulations in the field of genetic resources.
Birte studied law and political science at Philipps-University Marburg, University of San Francisco (Hastings College of the Law) and University of Hamburg. She completed both state exams as well as her doctorate (with a dissertation on design protection) in Hamburg. From 1997 till 2000 she was research assistant at the Max-Planck-Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg as well as from 1997 till 1998 in parallel lecturer at the University of Hamburg.
